Is your MI Box Wifi Keeps Disconnecting?

Here’s what you need to know to fix this problem.

I’ve been a Mi Box users for a while, and i know the problem with wifi keeps disconnecting is real.

Having said that, the MI android BOX S is an incredibly powerful streaming device.

Running wifi for hours without disconnecting it, is not a problem for the specs it has.

This basically means that you should not blame the box and, even better, you don’t have to upgrade it.

To address wifi connectivity problems, consider these troubleshooting methods:

  1. Switch to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi if your Android box doesn’t support 5GHz.
  2. Reboot your Android TV box to resolve minor issues.
  3. Ensure your device’s date and time settings are accurate.
  4. Check and optimize your internet speed and network for better performance.
  5. Connect your Android TV box via Ethernet if it has an Ethernet port.
  6. Reset your TV’s network settings if you encounter unusual bugs.
  7. Modify DNS settings to Google DNS for improved connectivity.
  8. Keep your device and apps up to date for better performance.
  9. As a last resort, perform a factory reset on your Android TV box if other methods don’t work.

#1 Try 2.4Ghz Band Instead of 5Ghz

If your wifi network is coming from a mobile hotspot. And your android box is not detecting the signals.

Try 2.4Ghz band instead of 5Ghz. Although 5Ghz is quite a powerful band, but it is not supported in many android devices, including Mi android box.

As a result, android boxes can not find signals of 5Ghz frequency.

How to change hotspot band in mobiles.

  1. Press “Menu” on mobile devices and then select “Settings.”
  2.  Scroll down and select “Network Selection,” 
  3. then find and press “Network Services.” 
  4. Look for the option called “Band Selection” and select it.

It’s also true for routers or wifi modems, if the band frequncy is 5Ghz and your andorid box supports only 2.4Ghz.

You will need to change the settings in order to fix it.

How to Change Your WiFi band in router

  1. Open a web browser and type your router’s IP address into the address bar.
  2. Then hit Enter on your keyboard.
  3. Next, enter your username and password. 
  4. Then open Wireless Settings.
  5. Next, click the Channels drop-down menu and change your WiFi channel.
  6. Finally, make sure to hit Save or Apply.

#2 Try Rebooting devices

Many minor problems need a simple reboot to get fixed.

It helps cool down a device, as a result of this hardware performs better.

As an android can have heat issues and that can cause its performance.

#3 Set time and Date

If the problem is wifi connected but interneting is not working. This is likely because of the wrong date and time.

Set your network provided date and time, and make sure you set it to automatically correct time and date for your next session.

  2. Select Settings.
  3. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options. Select Device Preferences → Date & time → Automatic date & time → set it to Off. …
  4. Set the date and time manually. Select Set date and Set time, or Date and Time

Fix 4: Check your Internet Speed

For large-screen TVs to display high-performance 4K content, an internet connection must be fast and stable.

To check your internet speed on your phone or laptop, use a service. 

Your TV must be connected to the same wireless network and frequency band as your computer.

Check to see if any unnecessary devices are overcrowding your network if you are experiencing slower internet speeds than you paid for.

Also, contact your ISP and ask them to investigate the problem.

Fix 5: Connect via Ethernet

Using an Ethernet cable is strongly recommended if your Xiaomi Mi Box S has an ethernet port. 

In addition to giving you the fastest speeds, an Ethernet connection also eliminates the connection drops and buffering issues that you often face when using WiFi.

Fix 6: Reset Network Settings

It is also possible to completely reset your TV’s network settings back to their default state.

Your Mi TV Box S will now be able to access the internet if it had been obstructed by any weird bugs.

Resetting network settings will make the settings default.

  1. On your Mi TV, navigate to Settings > Network & Internet.
  2. Select your WiFi network, click on Forget Network and confirm the action.
  3. Once done, re-enter your WiFi credentials and reboot your TV.

Fix 7: Change your DNS Settings

Many users have found that switching their default DNS values to that of Google DNS solved this annoying issue for them.

DNS values can be changed quite easily with Mi TVs, and even easier with newer models.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Network & Internet and select your WiFi network.
  2. Scroll down until you see the DNS Server.
  3. Change the default from Obtain Automatically to Enter Manually.
  4. In the DNS address field, enter 8.8.8.8.
  5. Save the settings and restart your TV.

Fix 7: Update Mix Box S

Make sure your device is up to date.

By means that, android OS needs to be update for working flawlessly, any latest update fixes bugs and glitches. 

If your Mi Box is not detecting nearby wifi networks. And if this happened recently.

At that moment, check if there is an update rolled out for the android OS.

And try updating the operating system it will likely fix such problems.

  1. Make sure your TV is connected to a reliable internet connection
  2. Navigate to Settings > System > Software Update and click on the Update Now button.

Sometimes the wifi is not at a fault if you are facing too much buffering.

Outdated apps can be an issue that needs your full attention. 

If you are streaming netflix and it’s buffering way more than it usually does.

Check if there a newer version of the app rolled out. If there is, update the app and it will work just fine as usuall.

  1. Launch the Play Store on your Mi TV.
  2. Navigate to My Apps and check for any app updates.
  3. Click on Update apps and wait for the update to finish. This will update all the apps installed on your Mi TV.
  4. Reboot your TV and check to see if you’ve fixed the issue.

Fix 9: Factory Reset the Mi Box 

After you’ve tried everything on this list, it is time to completely factory reset your TV.

Performing this action will eliminate any settings you have made, as well as delete all of your apps and log you out of any accounts.

This is how you can reset an MI Box S.

  1. Navigate to Settings > General Settings.
  2. Click on Factory Reset and select Reset.
