Intel uhd graphics 620 Fortnite- What to know?

Can Intel UHD 620 graphics run Fortnite? Read more to find out.

According to Epic’s website, Fortnite is designed to be playable on various PC hardware to let as many players as possible participate. Particularly, the game is playable on low graphic or performance mode on low-end laptops such as intel UHD 620.

What to know:

  • Make sure you have at least 8GB RAM and CPU processing power of more than 3+ GHz. 8th generation CPUs are ideal for a better gaming experience in Fortnite.
  • Allocate more RAM to the GPU for a better experience. You can do this from BIOS. Read Here to know how to do it.
  • Play on the Lowest graphic settings to achieve the maximum FPS on your laptop.
  • Intel UHD 620 can’t run Fortnite on medium graphics regardless of how good the CPU is backing up the GPU. It can only run at the lowest settings on playable frame rates of 30+.

In this blog post, I’m going to mention what framerates you will get on Fortnite on intel UHD graphics 620, and also how you can optimize the performance.

Is Intel 620 UHD graphics good enough for Fortnite?

During seasons 5 and 6 (2020), the Fortnite game was playable on Intel UHD 620 graphics. Gamers could easily get 40+ FPS on Fortnite even with Intel HD graphics at that time.

Then the game got updated. Through updates, the game gained more texture, better graphics, and smoother animations. Thus, needs a more powerful GPU.

Currently (in 2022) the Intel UHD 620 graphics are outdated. This is not enough for Fortnite if you want a smooth gaming experience, technically want more than 30+ FPS on medium settings. You will need to get an external GPU now to run the game smoothly.

On Intel UHD graphics, how many FPS will Fortnite give?

FPS on High settings:

Honestly, Fortnite is unplayable on high settings. It will hardly run between 1-5 FPS. Also, the game will be frozen and crash due to higher graphics settings.

FPS on medium settings:

On medium settings, the Fortnite game also is unplayable as long as you are okay with playing on 15-20 FPS. That’s too if you have more than 8GB of ram, and have allocated 4GB RAM to intel UHD GPU.

FPS of low setting (720p):

Fortnite gives 25-35 FPS on Intel UHD 620 graphics. If your laptop or PC has 8GB RAM memory or more. You can increase FPS by upgrading RAM and allocating more RAM memory to the integrated GPU from BIOS settings.

FPS on lowest settings (270p):

On the lowest settings and resolutions, Fortnite on intel UHD will give you about 40+ FPS if you have the decent CPU processing power. At least 8th Gen with RAM of at least 16 GB.

How to get more FPS on Fortnite on intel UHD 620?

You can enhance a little bit of the FPS of the Fornite game on Intel UHD 620 GPU. All you need to do is to tweak some settings from BIOS.

  • Go to your BIOS and allocate as much RAM to your integrated GPU. This will add more processing power to your GPU.
  • Upgrade RAM to 8GB at least if you have 4GB on your laptop. As such, 4GB is not enough because the CPU and GPU both are sharing this RAM.
  • Install SSD on your system. SSD can enhance the gaming experience a bit as it is faster. An SSD accelerates the launch and loading of games.

GPU for Fortnite

RTX 3070

The card absolutely shines when you’re playing Fortnite competitively (professionals and competitive players value framerates over high resolutions and eye candy) and that’s where it’ll be most useful. In 1920×1080, the framerate basically never drops below 240 frames per second at 144 and 240 frames per second setups.

RTX 3060

For anyone building a budget setup or who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on a PC, this is probably the best choice for playing games like Fortnite, GTA V, Far Cry, and others at their best graphics.

RTX 3060 Ti

If you have a little higher budget to spend on your new graphic card. This RTX 3060Ti is probably the finest card you can own at the best prices. It’s powerful enough to run any demanding games at the highest settings. And certainly, you can run Fortnite on the highest settings on this card.

How to verify your PC or Mac meets system requirements

PC:

  • Click Start.
  • Type System Information and press Enter.
  • Go to the System Summary to view and review your operating system, type of processor, and amount of memory. Make sure these meet or exceed the requirements listed above.

  • Example:
Fortnite requires a Core i3-3225 3.3 GHz and the system information file shows a Core i7-7600U 2.8GHz, which meets (and exceeds) the minimum system requirements.

  • Click the + sign next to Components to expand the list.
  • Click Display to show your video card(s).
  • Review your video card(s) to ensure the minimum requirements are met.
    Example:
Fortnite requires an Intel HD 4000 and the player’s file shows an Nvidia GeForce 940MX, which meets (and exceeds) the minimum system requirements.

Can an old laptop play Fortnite?

As noted on Epic’s website “Fortnite is designed to run well on a wide variety of PC hardware so that as many players as possible can jump in and play.”

So, similar to most free-to-play games that release now; even if you are playing on outdated hardware, you should be good!

Is Fortnite more GPU or CPU?

You need both GPU and CPU to run Fortnite. Plus, the game uses RAM so make sure your system has enough amount of RAM installed in it.

Fortnite does have good CPU utilization, with the load being spread reasonably well across multiple cores.

But it does lean a little more on the GPU performance for most of its PVE and PVP visuals, with CPU load only increasing in heavy moments of combat.

My experience with playing games on Intel UHD 620 Graphics

The Intel UHD 620 integrated GPU that comes with the XPS 13 is several generations newer than the Intel HD 4000 on the old Surface Pro, and the leap in generations is very noticeable in the game performance.

The XPS 13’s faster RAM also helps.

On the same lowest settings as before, with exclusive Fullscreen enabled and an internal resolution set at 66.7 percent (render resolution is 1280 x 720), the game performed at between 30 and 50 fps, depending on the circumstances.

Since playing the game at 720 sampled at 1080, visibility and graphical quality are great. The only problem that remained is that the game occasionally freezes during some intense situations.

To tackle this, reduce the internal resolution to 60 percent (render resolution is 1152 x 658)Fortnite can be played on a large range of older laptops with Integrated graphics thanks to an unlocked internal resolution scaler.
