I recently splurged on a shiny new Hisense TV, and like most modern TVs, it came equipped with HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel).
This nifty feature allows you to send audio from your TV to your soundbar or AV receiver through a single HDMI cable.
But when I connected it, guess what? Yep, it didn’t work.

1. Check the Basics: Cables and Connections
The first thing I did was check the basics. HDMI cables are notorious for causing headaches, so I made sure all my cables were high-speed HDMI and securely plugged in.
**2. Source Settings:
The next stop was my TV’s source settings. This is where you tell your TV to output audio via HDMI ARC.
On my Hisense TV, I navigated to the ‘Settings’ menu, ‘Sound,’ and then ‘Digital Audio Out.’
From there, I selected ‘Auto,’ and voila! The TV recognized the connected soundbar and audio started flowing.
3. Soundbar/AV Receiver Settings:
The source settings on your TV are essential, but your soundbar or AV receiver settings are equally important.
On my soundbar, I had to ensure it was set to receive audio from HDMI ARC.
This setting might vary based on your device, but it’s usually found in the ‘Audio’ or ‘Input’ settings.
**4. Firmware Updates:
Technology evolves, and sometimes a firmware update is all that’s needed to get things working.
I checked the Hisense website for any available updates for my TV model.
Updating the firmware can often fix compatibility issues and improve overall performance.
**5. Power Cycling:
I know it sounds like a cliché, but turning everything off and on again can sometimes work wonders.
I powered down both the TV and the soundbar, unplugged them for a minute, and then plugged them back in.
This simple action can refresh the connections and clear up minor glitches.
**6. Different HDMI Port:
If none of the above steps worked, I decided to switch HDMI ports on my TV. Some ports may be labeled differently or might prioritize certain functions.
It’s worth trying all the available HDMI ARC ports to see if that resolves the issue.
**7. Factory Reset (Last Resort):
If all else fails, you might consider a factory reset of your TV.
Keep in mind that this should be your last resort, as it will erase all your settings and preferences.
I didn’t have to go this far, but it’s an option if you’re desperate.
After going through these steps, I finally fixed my Hisense TV’s HDMI ARC issue.
Now, I can enjoy my favorite movies and shows with fantastic audio.
Remember that tech hiccups can be frustrating, but with a little patience and persistence, most problems can be resolved.
